![]() Engineered wood products provide a better system for framing floors and roofs by featuring beams, joists, and rimboards that work together as a system to provide a strong, reliable, and cost-effective residential framing solution. Engineered wood products are manufactured from about one-half the wood fiber used in dimension lumber, resulting in superior products that better use our available resources. Hadlock Building Supply stocks a wide variety of Bluelinx, Engineered Wood Products. Wood I-Joist Lightweight and cost effective, Wood I Beam joists are used as joist members in flooring systems and as rafters in roof systems. Basically, they are a superior alternative to dimension lumber in that they span further, shrink less, and are installed more quickly than dimension lumber. An I-joist is composed of two flanges and a FiberStrong® OSB web. BlueLinx Corporation distributes two different I-joist series in industry standard depths. The WI Series is manufactured with high-grade 2x3 & 2x4 solid sawn lumber flanges while the GPI Series is manufactured with GP Lam® LVL flanges. Their high performance can be attributed to a combination of quality materials and, most importantly, the "I" shape. When compared to a rectangular cross section, the "I" shape impacts stiffness much more favorably due to a better distribution of the wood fiber. Bending stresses are highest at the extreme edges (top & bottom) of a structural member. A Wood I Beam concentrates the bulk of its overall mass in these two locations. |
